This is a kit that replaces your factory tailgate latch mechanism with more modern latches for smoother and easier operation. The kit comes with everything you need! Some trimming is required on the tailgate itself. You will also need to drill a hole in the tailgate jamb to install the provided rivnut, and lastly a hole in the bedside jamb for the striker mount. A template is provided for the trimming, and the brackets mount to existing holes and will locate the additional holes. Overall, this is a very simple install!
It’s no problem to install these on a truck that is already painted. I’ve installed them on three painted trucks, then I just had to touch up the edge of the cut with a modelers paint brush.
It’s beneficial to run the tailgate trunnions. They take the slop out of the tailgate and keep it centered. If the tailgate moved back and forth, the latches won’t be lined up with strikers.

Nice product and easy installation. Would recommend for any build. Note: that it's a snug fit if you have the taillight fuel filler. May need to use half nut inside filler.
